New from Raincoast Books comes this fun new book called Canada Doodles, written by Canadian Author, Megan Radford and illustrated by Canadian artist Peter Cook …. just in time for Canada Day!
Each of these pages is filled with the beginnings of a fun art doodle sheet that is based on something Canadian – travelling across the country east, west, and north. There’s pages to fill in things like the Northern Lights, drawing in the Atlantic salmon that you catch, adding the train along the Rocky Mountain track and some fireworks over the Parliament Buildings for Canada Day.
Even though it’s a doodling book, it’s jam-packed full of interesting and educational tidbits about our country. It also shows the amazing diversity of cultures that we have living here – from our passion for hockey, to ethnic celebrations, to neat festivals, and amazing attractions. (Did you know there’s a huge Woolly Mammoth replica in Saskatchewan?!)
One of the features I love is that it’s pocket sized! I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting that, but what a neat perk. It’s the perfect size to tuck into your bag for those times you need to keep little (and big!) hands busy. Times like road trips, bus stops, doctor offices, waiting at restaurants…etc. The binding and pages are really sturdy, making it a great lasting book.
