Do you and your kids love challenging puzzles and games? You really need to check out this great competition run by Syzygy Research & Technology Ltd. and their ExamBank program.
It’s called The Noggin’ Hoggin’ Challenge. Run a few times a year for a week, this challenge gives daily brain stumping puzzles that you can work together on as a family or group to solve. Homeschoolers are more than welcome to enter – I was told that instead of putting in a school name, simply put in “homeschool” or the like.
Open to any student from K – 12 in Canada (although prizes cannot be awarded to those living in Quebec due to the provinces’ regulations), each registrant logs into the website daily to see the question of the day, then works to solve it, answering the question before the day is over. The next day, they log in again to see if they are right and move on to the next puzzle. At the end of the week, the students left standing are the ones who win prizes.
In the past this was an elimination challenge, but they have just announced they are changing it so that you can keep participating even if you get the answer wrong. The penalty will be a time delay on the final challenge for each wrong answer during the week instead of elimination. I think this is great because then you can keep working on the puzzles!
As an adult – I found many of the past questions extremely challenging! There are word riddles, picture puzzles, cryptograms, problem solving, and so much more.
