As we close in on another year’s end, what kind of memories do you have with your kids and homeschooling adventures? Have you belonged to any groups or clubs or co-ops ? Homeschoolers always seem to have so many things in their year…and what better way is there to remember them all than through a yearbook?
In the summer, I first had the opportunity to review a yearbook design through the company. The experience was outstanding and I love it so much that I really wanted to be able to share their company and product with you! I personally chose to make my yearbooks be based on the Jan-Dec calendar with all the things we did during that year.
Your first challenge is think of all the topics, events, field trips, activities, etc. that you want to include in your book. Think of how many pages you will need for each one. These will be your sections. You CAN do this as you go along but I found it helped to plan out what I was going to put in my book before starting.
Now comes the hard part: sifting through your photos from the year and pick out all the ones you want to use. You will need all you photos to be edited before adding them to your book. Keep in mind they will need to be high resolution pictures for the best clarity.
Once you have everything planned, it is time to get to work on the design!
If you have ever scrapbooked, digitally or otherwise, you will likely find the method quick to grasp.
- Upload the photos you need for that section.
- Pick a background that will match your theme or photo colours for that layout.
- Choose a photo layout for that page based on the number of pictures you plan to include. Drag photos into place, editing as needed.
- Add text and embellishments as desired. There are several fonts and stickers to choose from.
If you need to use more photos than the template is set for, it is easy to add more. Edits are simple and very user friendly. If you have trouble just understanding where to find everything to put your book together, Picaboo has done a terrific job putting together tutorial videos to help you out.
You can work with a team to create your yearbook – either giving each of your kids an account to add their creative section or ideas if you are doing a family book, or a leadership team for a group or club. Each person is assigned a level – Editor, Contributor, or Viewer, for example.
If you are doing the book for an outside club or group, there are a few other neat features to consider too. You can use these books as a fundraiser! When the book is completed, and put up into your store for people to order, you can set the price. For example – if the finished product would cost $10, you can set it $20 and keep that extra $10 as part of your fundraising efforts. Plus, each person who orders from your online store can add an additional section of their own with 4 bonus pages (and cover) with their personalized photos and extras!

Although they say that shipping takes up to 3 weeks, but both times that I’ve gotten books – they have arrived super quickly! The quality of the books is fantastic: the pages are very durable and the cover is glossy thick. Everything came exactly it as it looked in the preview, and the photos are sharp. My boys love looking through their yearbooks. And what a great idea for a Christmas gift for family or clubmates.
The cost for one of these books for us here in Canada is VERY reasonable. I was excited. For the 20 page, softcover book that I ordered, it cost $8.49 for the book. With shipping and taxes, it came to just under $20.50. You also get a free e-Book version of your yearbook!
What would your yearbook be about?

I think this would be a really good tool to use when our kids are explaining to others that they are homeschooled. Definitely would make them feel special and a good tradition to start! I’d include field trip photos for all those people who STILL ask, “Do they get out of the house once in a while?”!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!
Mine would be a Christmas scrapbook. We create one each year for our Christmas memories. It is fun to pull out each Christmas and see all the years past.
