In 1996, February 15th was declared National Flag of Canada Day – where we celebrate the now iconic symbol of our nation. This marks the date of the first official raising of the flag over Parliament back in 1965, after a long debate over which flag best represented the country.

Canadian author, Rick Archbold, has written a book called A Flag for Canada – which follows the “Great Flag Debate” of 1964. He also has a website with information about the flag, including some really neat facts. Did you know, for example, that it’s not actually crime to burn the Canadian flag (unlike it is for our US neighbours)? Interesting!
