Shelley Grey, is an early years teacher from Manitoba who is also a busy mom of three. She stays active in the teaching community by creating resources to help her fellow teachers succeed in the classroom.
Multiplication Mastery is one of Shelley’s big programs. It actually includes 2 different versions. One covers multiplication facts to 5×5 and the second goes up to 10×10.
This bundle is designed to help make multiplication more fun though independent discovery – like you’d find in a math centre in a classroom. I admit – sometimes it gets too easy to just fall back into the “workbook” method of learning and forget the hands-on, play learning that seems to make things stick. This is a great way to help counter that.
What I love is that there is a clearly defined step-by-step checklist included to help you prep everything to be able to use this product. Some don’t really apply as they are for a classroom setting – things like parent packs, but much of it is very handy to have! Using a file folder system, you set up a station with lessons and activities for each of the multiplication families.
There are sections directed at the teacher to explain what the kids are learning, worksheets for the kids to complete that help develop concepts and understanding of multiplication facts, lots of printables – games, booklets, etc – and ideas for encouraging success.
One of the games that my kids really liked was Clothespin Multiplication. This game has a printable of multiplication questions. You, as the teacher, mark the answers on some clothespins, the kids have to match the right pin to the right question. I think they did this puzzle like 20 times each! Great way to review their knowledge and even allows them to self-correct as they go along.
This is a very full, creative, and comprehensive tool for helping kids master multiplication.
