Welcome to Grade 6 Learn-At-Home!
This page is designed to help provide you with resources to teach your child at this level and to give you some confidence as you tackle this adventure. It focuses on the core subjects, but you can add in any extras that you would like to include. The resources listed are based on the various curriculum learning outcomes presented by the provinces and territories.

- Voting Rules! A unit study set of lessons that explores the government and the importance of elections presented by Elections Ontario.
- Guide to the Canadian Government Learning Modules. This is an online program that works in tandem with the book Who Runs This Country Anyway?
In this unit students explore what it means to be a good citizen of the world and sustainability.
- Inspiring Global Citizens: This is a 4 part multi-lesson series that includes some great thinking activities. Some of them require a group, so adaptation may be needed.

- Easy Peasy Language Arts 6 (this is a free online homeschool program. It is a faith-based program, although I'm not sure if there are any references to faith in this language program.)

- Electricity: Hands-on lessons on electricity. You will need batteries, wires, and light bulbs, etc. There is reference to personal electricity use and an example of rates from ~2009 in New Brunswick that you may choose to update using your own information instead.

- Biodiversity: A set of lessons that examines the outdoor world and how it all is webbed together. It takes a look at invasive species and gets you to plant your own garden.
- Diversity of Life: A hands-on set of lessons that looks at the classification kingdoms, microorganisms, and natural selection. (They do a yeast experiment from a textbook. Try this one - include all the additional options.)
- Diversity of Living Things: Looking at how scientists classify living things, and study different organisms at each level.

- Space: A multi-lesson unit study about the solar system and space exploration. Includes hands-on activities and worksheets as needed.
- Astronomy Unit: This is a now-archived set of lessons that explores space - comets, meteors, the motion of the Earth and moon, and how astronauts live in space. Although it's on the wayback playback, it looks like most (if not all) the additional printouts and resources are still available.

LAWS OF MOTION
In this unit, students learn about Newton's Three Laws of Motion.
Parent-Led Resources
- Forces and Motion: A whole collection of hands-on activities to study the Three Laws of Motion. Most materials seem pretty common place in the home. Worksheets and reading segments are likely below grade level but still informative.
- What are Newton's Laws? A three part study on the Laws of Motion. There is a green box in the sidebar that says "Curriculum in this Unit" where you can navigate through the lessons. Has slideshow presentations and experiments.
Independent Resources
HUMAN BODY
In this unit, students explore the systems in the human body.
Here are some Parent-Interactive resources. Although most of these are intended for a classroom setting, you can complete most of these lessons and activities at home.
- Human Body Unit Study. A 13 lesson study of the systems of the human body. She has links to videos and resources as well as questions for her students to research. It's based on a textbook that is not available online (although they have additional weblinks). Use whatever books you have available or get your child to research the answers online.
- Human Body Systems for Students: Based on the Yukon curriculum, this resource examines the bodies of humans and a few animals like bears and caribou. It has hands on activities and some worksheets as well.
- Your Body's Systems: A reading and worksheet based program with links to some interactive activities

MIXTURES
In this unit, students explore the differences between mixtures and solutions.
Here are some Parent-Interactive Resources. Although most of these are intended for a classroom setting, you can complete most of these lesson and activities at home.
- Properties and Changes of Materials: These are all kinds of hands-on activities related to liquids, solids, and gasses. There is one lesson that includes litmus paper, but you can likely just skip that lesson if you don't have access to any.
- Mixtures and Solutions: Hands-on activities including trail mix and a bottle of liquids. There is a lot of teacher jargon and information on this unit study, so just skip to the activities that start on page 8 and page 14. The rest of the file is more like a student report.

TREES
In this unit, students explore the life of trees.
Here are some Parent-Interactive resources. Although most of these are intended for a classroom setting, you can complete most of these lessons and activities at home.
- Trees and Forest Study Guide. A Workbook full of information about trees, leaves, tree rings, the water cycle, and more.
- Work Wild Grade 6 Trees Unit: A 3 part activity resource using videos and worksheets (find the student resources here). Explore the forest, its uses, and careers.

EVIDENCE AND INVESTIGATION
In this unit, students become forensic scientists.
Here are some Parent-Interactive resources. Although most of these are intended for a classroom setting, you can complete most of these lessons and activities at home.
- Forensic Science: This is a multi-unit set of lessons where you study everything from fingerprints, bitemarks, and blood splatters among other things. It uses powerpoint presentations. You might not be able to do everything on the list due to needing special supplies, but it's a great set of lessons.
- Step Under the Tape: This is really designed as a high school course. It uses a text, presentations, worksheets, and projects. I recommend looking over this first to make sure that it is ok for your child.

PHYS.ED & HEALTH
Use activities from GoNoodle to keep active.
- Media Literacy: There are six lessons. Watch the video the click on the text link underneath to open the lesson page for each. On the bottom of the lesson page is a printable lesson - with activities and any worksheets needed. This program is designed to get students thinking about how media works and how it impacts their decisions.
