Sometimes, you just find a book that your kid sneaks upstairs at bedtime along with a flashlight. It’s an added bonus when that book is one that is educational. Here’s the book that my 10 year old hasn’t let go of since it came into our home: Utterly Amazing Science.
No matter what age you are, any book that involves you to participate is just plain fun. This book is no exception. The pages are filled with flaps, 3D pop-ups, moving bits, and other kinds of goodies. It’s packed full of scientific information!
Topics include:
- The Mighty Atom
- States of Matter
- Mixtures
- Chemical Reactions
- Materials
- Forces
- Gravity
- Magnetism
- Machines
- Energy
- Light
- Heat
- and Electricity
Amongst all the flaps and pop up fun, are lots of great photos and facts, as well as suggestions for related demonstrations to try at home, like – egg parachutes, floating paperclips, nearly instant ice cream, slime time, and more.
For example, we loved learning about how high you could jump on other things throughout space – like the Sun, Moon, Mars and Pluto.
Sun: “On the Sun, jumping would be impossible – you’d be 28 times your Earth weight… and on fire!!”
(That may have caused quite a few giggles!)
This book is fantastic – and SO much fun to learn from. Even *I* learned things as an adult that I hadn’t known before. I highly recommend it.

Hello,
I’ve found some amazing lapbooks and notebooking pages about all things science created by a company called The Hands of a Child. Their curriculum material is quite wonderful. They come with tips and tricks and plenty of listings for other resources and simple experiments. I really recommend you check them out.
Thanks Fozia,
I’ve enjoyed a few of their projects. Thanks for reminding me about them.
