Famous Explorers Research Cards

The golden age of European Exploration featured some pretty exciting and interesting people and experiences. (I mean, come on – getting eaten by natives has to be a wild adventure, right?) If you are studying this period of time, hopefully this printable will help make the learning fun.

I was working on my lesson plans for my boys this year, in which we will be tackling world history, and when I got to the explorers years, I wasn’t really thrilled with many of the options out there for helping make it more interactive. I decided to make these cards for them.

This printable includes 12 explorers:

  • Marco Polo
  • John Cabot
  • Jacques Cartier
  • Vasco Da Gama
  • Sir Francis Drake
  • Christopher Columbus
  • Henry Hudson
  • Juan Ponce do Leon
  • Hernando de Soto
  • Ferdinand Magellan
  • Giovanni da Verrazzano
  • James Cook

I designed them with the intention of them to be cut out and glued under the explorer’s name into an interactive notebook, then folded up along the solid line under the explorer’s name. Underneath this flap, you glue the map – where your students can draw the travel routes of the explorer. On the front flap, they can write why that explorer is famous.

However, you can simply just use each page as a single worksheet as you learn about the explorers if you would prefer.

If you are using Easy Peasy Homeschool’s Year 1 Ancient History curriculum, these cards will co-ordinate with their explorers unit.
