Although not every homeschooling family chooses to use the Ontario curriculum as a guideline, and there is no obligation to follow these documents in any way, some people like to know their child is following along in a similar learning pattern to their publicly schooled peers.

>> DOWNLOAD THE ONTARIO CURRICULUM CHECKLISTS <<
Ontario provides all the curriculum guidelines for free on their Ministry of Education website. You can find all the learning outcomes for Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, History/Geography, The Arts, Health, and Core French for each grade from 1-8. There are also guides for high school curriculum and the All-Day Kindergarten program as well.Ā You can find all of them here: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/grades.html
The only downside is thatĀ these files are all separated by subject instead of putting all the plans for each grade into a single file. You have to sift through each subject resource to find the specific expectations for each grade that you are working on.
Now you can download each grade from one to eight in a PDF file in a checklist format for easy reference and guidance.Ā The resources I’ve put together include all current editions (as of April 2024) of each subject: math, science and technology, language arts, social studies, the arts, health and physical education, and core French (where applicable) for each single grade. I’ve tried to make it simple for you to look over, understand, and check off what your child has learned or is working on.
If you are not in Ontario, I’ve also completed checklists for British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan curriculum, but hope to add the rest of the provinces and territories in the future as I know there are differences between each and unique expectations.
Wondering how you can use these resources in your homeschool? Check out this post: How to use the Canadian Curriculum Checklists
Please note: These checklists have been free for a long time. However, due to the many hours of work required to update and maintain them, I made the difficult decision to charge a nominal fee of $1.99 for each grade. Thank you for helping support the work I do so that I can keep doing it.

Hello,
I love using these checklists during the school year. I was wondering if you are going to update them to include the new math expectations?
Thank you!
Hey there. I’ve got Grade 1-5 finished and changed on the download page now. Hoping to have 6-8 done tomorrow!
Hi LisaMarie,
Thank you for doing all this work! You are a lifesaver š
I’m having a hard time downloading the checklists. There seems to be some error with the link.
I’m so sorry. someone brought attention to the fact my download program seems to have a problem. :'( I’ve been trying to problem solve all day and have put in a tech support request. In the meantime, pop me an email at thecanadianhomeschooler@gmail.com with which grade you are looking for and I’ll send you it directly.
Agreed, thank you! Love the layout.
Great resource, thanks for putting this together!
Thanks! š
Thank you so much for putting this together. You just made my life easier š
Thanks for your feedback – I’m so glad! š
So greatful for your effort into creating this for us all. It is quite overwhelming when looking at the original way on the boards site. I am printing as we speek lol Thanks again!
Thanks for the great feedback – I fully agree. looking at curriculum books is like looking at gibberish sometimes lol
Thank you so much for all your hard work. I love this format and can’t wait to use it. Your web site is a great Canadian resource and it’s a first stop for me every time I get a chance to surf.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback. š It’s really appreciated. š
Your the Best, Thank you,You have open my eyes to a lot more options than I thought I had. This I hope will help me I am sure for the upper level studies Thanks one more time.
WOW! Thank you so much for putting this together! We will be starting grade 1 next year and this couldn’t have come out at a more perfect time for us.
So glad that it’s able to help you! All the best as you plan for the fall! š
very helpful…thank you so much!
Thank you very, very much for putting this together for us! I truly appreciate your website. I am new to homeschooling and I am gathering as much information as I can, because I will begin the next school term. This is awesome! Thank you.
I do have a question: Is there a curriculum available for French Immersion or French as a First Language? I noticed the BC curriculum has it incorporated. Is there one for Ontario?
If you go to the Ontario website – http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/ – you can see all the French options. For these checklists, I opted to use the core French program which is the basic on starting from Grade 4 as an additional language, however they do have French Immersion and extended French curriculum outlines available.
This is great! Thank you sooo much! I will check out the link. I want my kids to continue with their French, and this will help a great deal.
Thank you, again, LisaMarie. Very much appreciated.
You are welcome! I’m glad they will be helpful! š
Hello,
Thank you so very much for all the work you’ve put into this; it’s truly amazing!
Any chance you might do one for kindergarten? I know Kindergarten is not mandatory, but I was just wondering š
Yours,
Mariana
Hi Mariana,
I was planning to, but I just never got to it. Good suggestion. I’ll put it on my list! š
Thanks for your kind words.
Lisa Marie.
This is a huge help for any parent in Ontario! Thank you so much!! Any chance that Manitoba is next on your list, or close to the top? I am looking at home schooling next year and would LOVE the extra help you can provide.
Thanks so much.
If I could just clone myself already, all the provinces would be done! š I’m trying to chip away as fast as I can! I hope I can get them all done asap!
LisaMarie What a wonderfully put together resource. And you’ve already included the new HPE curriculum! Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words. š I hope you find it useful.
These sources are very helpful, thank you for putting these together. Appreciated!
Is there a set like this for Alberta?
In the works! š
Thanks for this great resource. Do you know where I can find the curriculum check list format for secondary school, grades 9 to 12?
Thank you
Hi Sofia,
I’m sorry – I currently don’t have these. Hopefully one day I’ll get time to work on them as well. For now, you can see the secondary school curriculum outlines provided by the gov’t here: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/secondary/
Hope that helps.
This is fantastic!
I ma considering homeschooling my younger three (5, 2, 8 months). Is there any way you are planning to do one of these for kindergarten? Currently, my 5 year old is in the Catholic school system but I would like to research what I may be getting myself into with homeschooling. I ma downloading the others, though for future use even if it is just to help out with activities at home.
Thanks you for this!
I wish I had 4 sets of hands and more time to work on this to-do list! I have Kindergarten in the works and hopefully will get it done soon! ::fingers crossed::
My child will be starting JK next year. Do you have a curriculum outline of what children should be learning in JK and SK in Ontario?
PS: Your work is very well put together.
Thank you for your kind words. I’m trying to get the Kindergarten edition finished. Hopefully I will have time to get it finalized soon!
Just curious as to why the 2006 version of Kindergarten was done vs. the full day version which is now implemented in schools across Ontario? Do you have plans to update the full day Kindergarten version?
Good Question. I didn’t do the full day one for a few reasons, the main being because it is marked on the site as “draft.” I wasn’t sure if it was completed or not. Plus, once you get past the first 50 pages of text or so, the full day program is actually laid out in a very easy chart design which I think is easy to read without my help. And, lastly, because it isn’t in every school, everywhere. I just had to pick something. If you think it is of vital importance, I will dd a note to the post with the link to the K-Full Day book from the gov-‘t. I hope that makes sense. š
Thank You SO SO SO very much! All the work you put into the website and the sharing of information sure does help those of us thinking about the Homeschool option and those of use who’ve made the jump and are just getting started!
I applaud your dedication.
š Thanks Lisa. I appreciate it.
Thank you so much for doing this! I am homeschooling my 6 children this fall and was feeling very overwhelmed trying to find the expectations/curriculum for 5 different grade levels. This is exactly what I needed. ā„
Thanks a lot.this is very very helpful.
Hi there! Thanks so much for all the work you’ve done for these checklists! I read you answer to the comment about French immersion, but I wondered if you would post or send your blank template, so I could create the French immersion checklists to match all your others. Thanks for considering the request…
Hi Kerry,
I sent you an email. š
Lisa Marie.
Great work! Thank you very much! That will help me for math.Do you plan on doing the FSL curriculum checklist in the near future ?
These checklists include Core French which is from Grade 4 on. Honestly, I had no plans on adding in the French Immersion information but if enought people want it, I suppose I can try to pop it together. Lack of time and hands makes these extra things a challenge. š
Great job putting that together!! Your truly an angel!! Thank you very much for taking the time to make things easier for us parents! (and children!) I just have one question, do you know of a good website where I can find some workbooks for different subjects for Grade 3 that mesh with your checklist? My son loves filling out workbooks! Thanks again!!
THIS IS AWESOME!! Thank you sooo much!
Thank you for creating these guides! I have my first classroom as a teacher this year and am finding them extremely helpful!!
Fantastic! I’m so glad that you’ve found them useful. š
This is fabulous!!! I’ve been looking for something like this for ages! Tried making my own and gave up because it was so time consuming and tedious! Thanks so much!!!
Amazing job! Thank you.
this is fantastic, i just printed off a bunch of checklists to show in a binder for my teaching evaluation, saved me a lot of time thanks
Hello. This is an excellent resource! It must have taken you a while. Thank you very much for sharing it for free!
You are welcome š
Thank you so much! Exactly what I was looking for!
Thank you! Exactly what I need.
I’m once again using these awesome checklists as I get organized for September. I’ve linked to them in my latest post š http://www.marianamcdougall.com/not-back-school-homeschooling-family-september/
Thank You Very Much for Putting this together. I really do appreciate it
I hope that it’s helpful! š
LisaMarie, I echo all the comments here, also thanking you so much for all your hard work compiling all this curriculum information by grade. This is an invaluable resource for teachers š
<3
I saw that you mentioned doing one for the updaed 2016 kindergarten curriculum. Did you end up doing this? I would be very interested in this if so!
Sorry – I don’t think I finished it yet. The work is very time consuming for these, and I just haven’t had time! I’ll keep chipping away though š
The actual layout of the new kindergarten curriculum in the government file is pretty good, though. So it’s not as complicated as the other grades!
Hi! Are these updated with the 2018 social studies expectations? Thanks for doing this!
Not yet. I honestly thought that it had been postponed. I will take a look and see what I can do about updating them soon. Thanks for letting me know!
Hi there,
Have you done anything for high school yet?
No, I haven’t, Sorry. The Ontario education website has high school curriculum outlines here though: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/secondary/subjects.html
I just want to say – as an educator of 9 years I have been coming to your website as long as I can remember. I use a lot of stuff on here for my son as well, in order to supplement his learning at school. I want to thank you so much for the wonderful resources you offer – you have honestly made my career and life easier.
I’m so glad that you’d found it helpful! š
Does this information come in French? My child has a hard time with English.
Hey Jennifer,
The government offers their curriculum outcomes in French here: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/fre/curriculum/elementary/grades.html
I do not have French editions of the checklists however.
Lisa Marie.
Awesome site and resources! I signed up but cannot seem to access the curriculum checklists. I am redirected to the same page every time saying it looks like I don’t have access to the page. Did I miss a step?
oh dear. silly technology! We thought we’d fixed that. Sigh.
Can you try now? š
Thank you soooo much!! I can’t explain how helpful this site is! I was sooo overwhelmed with the concept of trying to teach the kids, and this site helped me more than I can even explain! Thank you for all your work, and your generosity in sharing with us!
<3 Good! :)
thank you – incredibly helpful and appreciated.
What a fantastic resource! Thank you very much for your generous time commitment to put together all this information!
THANKYOU LisaMarie! Your site has been of so much help to me as a new homeschool mom! I so appreciate all the work you have put into making the Ontario curriculum available this way!!
Hi There! I just came across your website and I am looking to start homeschooling my daughter officially who is 5 years old. Iām just wondering how I submit a letter of intent to the local school board here in Niagara Falls. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you so much!
Hey there,
Here is the best reference for letters of intent and how to submit one: https://ontariohomeschool.org/legal/letter-of-intent/
Hope that helps!
Hello! Do you have something similar to these checklists for the order one should teach the math curriculum?
If you just want math specifically, you can look at the ontario website. They organize their curriculum expectations by grade level. http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/ele
Building a Kinder/Grade 1 program in the outdoors. This is the brevity and clarity that is hard to find with Ministry Documents. Thanks for your hard work!
Hi!
Just wondering if you will be updating the Ontario Science Curriculum checklists? This is a lot of work and it is really appreciated. Thank you!
Oh no. Did I miss an update? I’ll take a look and see what we can pull together!
Hi Lisa! Thanks for making these. The Science curriculum was updated in March 2022. If you do update the document I would be so appreciative!
They are all updated! š
I just stumbled across this during an Ontario curriculum search! Thank you for the awesome resource! The time it took for you to put this together is greatly appreciated!!!
I love the Ontario Curriculum Checklists for Grades 1 to 8! They are so helpful and make planning so much easier.
None of the checklists seem to be available today. Is that a system glitch? Absolutely love your resources and was hoping for the updated version.
Argh. Technology is the bane of my existence!
What grade are you looking for? I’ll send you a copy and then I’ll try to fix this!
Hi there, I love your checklists. I have been using them for over 5+ years now. Will you have the language updated curriculum? Thanks so much for all the work you put in and share with us!
The 2023 updates to the curriculum have been added to these already š I think I accidentally forgot to change the date on the front cover.
Thank you so much for these curriculum checklists! They are immensely useful and save so much time. I’m just wondering if these Ontario Curriculum checklists include the updated 2023 Social Studies curriculum? I can see they’re updated with 2023 Language Arts and Science, but there’s no mention of Social Studies (Grades 1-3 and Grade 6). Thanks again!
Hi Eve,
Yes – they are updated to include the 2023 Social Studies updates š
I hope that helps.
Hello,
Thank you so much for these checklists! Just noticed that the Grade 2 Visual Art page seems to be missing from the Grade 2 PDF.
Thanks! This is on our to-fix list asap. Sorry about that!
Hi! WOndering if the Social Studies curriculum will be updated soon? Love this resource!!!
We have been working on the checklists this whole week – hope to have them done within the next week or two. They are a lot of work to keep up to date! Please keep an eye out! š Thanks for your patience.
Thank you so much for sharing these Ontario curriculum checklists! As a teacher, I’ve been searching for a reliable resource to ensure I’m covering all the necessary material for each grade level. This is incredibly helpful and I’ll definitely be bookmarking it for future reference.
I’m so glad they are helpful for you. š
