DK Canada: Arts & Crafts Books

DK Canada is a great company. They have so many outstanding books for both kids and adults. This month, I’m excited to share with you some of their creative inspiration books – all about making stuff!

DK Canada Craft Books

My boys and I dug into the brand new Mommy & Me Craft book as soon as it arrived and I let them pick out a craft we could do together one day for fun. There were a lot of great ideas to choose from – knitting dolls, fish windsocks, jet packs, snow globes….. but we ended up picking Rock Painting.

Rock Painting

ย What you need:

  • Smooth Rocks (either that you’ve collected or from the craft supply store)
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Varnish/Mod Podge
  • Googly eyes
  • Paint Brush
  • water/paper towels

What to do:

Let your creative side come out and paint the rocks into whatever you’d like! Bugs, monsters, colourful designs – there’s no limit. Be inspired by the shape of your rock and what you can envision it to be. We had fun making ladybugs, snakes, mice, a monster with a mustache, and just colourful rocks!

I’m loving these craft books by DK – they are so bright, colourful, filled with great photos to show you how to do things, and offer a great wide selection of crafts to try.

The Big Book of Things to Make has instructions on how to make: an urban periscope, glow-in-the-dark Jell-O, balloon shapes, a board game, an erupting volcano, castles, and so much more.

Make-It features crafts to create from trash and recyclables. It’s filled with ideas on how to use paper, plastics, fabrics, and metals. (Paper mache and mobile mirrors, anyone?)

Mommy and Me Start Cooking is from the same line as the craft one we used for our project. It’s new this year and teaches kids about food and how to cook. There are some amazing easy-to-understand illustrations about foods (like the parts of tomato plants, what’s inside an egg, and all about wheat). Foods that you can make from this book are things like pancakes, chicken risotto, pita pizzas, potato fishcakes, and more.

  1. My oldest (6) loves painting rocks! Right now the kids’ favourite thing in the craft cupboard is the glitter glue.
