Language can be tricky – so many rules and variations. As Canadians, we have the extra challenge of spelling some words differently than our American friends. Our British and French roots have influenced the development of our language, and it’s important to help our kids understand how to use Canadian spelling for these different words.
This Canadian Spelling Pack includes a table to compare Canadian and American spellings, some flashcards that you can use either for practice or for a word wall, and a few worksheets to help review these words.

Thanks! I knew you were working on this but didn’t realize you had posted it already! We are using All About Spelling but I don’t think we have come across any of these words yet. I’ll have to keep my eyes open and make sure I teach them the “right” way. I sure wish AAS had a Canadian version the way that Math U See does.
Yesterday our lesson was saying that “been” was a rule breaker because it is pronounced “bin” and my daughter and I came to the conclusion that we use both pronunciations at times. The teacher’s manual did point out that it is pronounced “been” in England though.
Just posted it today! 🙂 I know that Canadian stuff isn’t THAT much different than US, but it’s just those little things that make a big differences to me in curriculum – spelling the way we want our kids to learn, metric systems, etc. I never thought about pronounciation – that’s interesting! Canada is so influenced by our history, communities, and neighbours to the south!
