How much do you REALLY know about Canada? What about your high school aged student? Think they are up for a challenge? Check out this opportunity.
Historica Canada is hosting a Canadian Citizenship Challenge for students in grades 7 – 12 (Secondary I-V in Quebec) until the end of December 2013. It’s open to both teachers with large groups of students and also individual students.
Here’s what you have to do:
1. Download and read/study the available STUDY GUIDE all about Canada. This book offers a brief synopsis of Canadian history, geography, government, and more. There is a set of study questions in the back to make sure you learned everything.
2. Use the optional lesson plans and worksheets. These dive into each topic more closely and allow you to examine subjects with more intent. There are lesson worksheets for both junior and senior levels.
3. Register on the website to join the challenge.
4. Take the test. It’s 20 questions, closed book, and only takes 15 minutes. You will get your results back right away and be put in the draws for the prizes at the end.
Individual students can win one of two trips to Ottawa for a special “student citizen” tour and events, plus other great prizes from various sponsors like Red Canoe, Penguin, and Staples.
This challenge ends on December 1st, so be sure to jump and take part right now.
