When Prime Minister John Thompson died during his time in office in 1894, Sir Mackenzie Bowell became acting Prime Minister – making him the fifth leader of Canada.

During his time in office, his cabinet was divided on issues such as schooling rights for minorities in Manitoba. His time as leader doesn’t seem to have anything very memorable, making most of the information available about his time pretty basic.

He ended up being pushed into resignation, making way for Sir Charles Tupper to become Prime Minister for a short term after him.
