Ontario Elementary Level Curriculum Checklists

Although not every homeschooling family chooses to use the Ontario curriculum as a guideline, and there is no obligation to follow these documents in any way, some people like to know their child is following along in a similar learning pattern to their publicly schooled peers.

Ontario provides all the curriculum guidelines for free on their Ministry of Education website. You can find all the learning outcomes for Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, History/Geography, The Arts, Health, and Core French for each grade from 1-8. There are also guides for high school curriculum and the All-Day Kindergarten program as well.  You can find all of them here: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/grades.html

The only downside is that these files are all designed by subject covering all the elementary grades instead of putting all the plans for each grade into a single book.

Ontario Curriculum Checklists - Easy to use elementary grade curriculum checklists for Ontario that are sorted by grade.

Now you can download each grade from one to eight in a single PDF file in a checklist format for easy reference and guidance.  The resources I’ve put together include all current editions (up to 2022) of each subject: math, science and technology, language arts, social studies, the arts, health and physical education, and core French (where applicable) for each single grade. I’ve tried to make it simple for you to look over, understand, and check off what your child has learned or is working on.

Right now, I’ve only completed the elementary Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan curriculum, but hope to add the rest of the provinces and territories in the future as I know there are differences between each and unique expectations.

**Please note: these files have been updated in July 2022 and includes the new science updates.**

There is also a Kindergarten checklist as many people have requested it, however, this edition uses the 2006 curriculum and not the one for the full-day program. DOWNLOAD THE FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM.

  3. Your the Best, Thank you,You have open my eyes to a lot more options than I thought I had. This I hope will help me I am sure for the upper level studies Thanks one more time.

  4. Thank you very, very much for putting this together for us! I truly appreciate your website. I am new to homeschooling and I am gathering as much information as I can, because I will begin the next school term. This is awesome! Thank you.

I do have a question: Is there a curriculum available for French Immersion or French as a First Language? I noticed the BC curriculum has it incorporated. Is there one for Ontario?

      1. This is great! Thank you sooo much! I will check out the link. I want my kids to continue with their French, and this will help a great deal.

Thank you, again, LisaMarie. Very much appreciated.

  5. Hello,

Thank you so very much for all the work you’ve put into this; it’s truly amazing!

Any chance you might do one for kindergarten? I know Kindergarten is not mandatory, but I was just wondering 🙂

    Yours,

    Mariana

  6. This is a huge help for any parent in Ontario! Thank you so much!! Any chance that Manitoba is next on your list, or close to the top? I am looking at home schooling next year and would LOVE the extra help you can provide.
    Thanks so much.

    1. If I could just clone myself already, all the provinces would be done! 😀 I’m trying to chip away as fast as I can! I hope I can get them all done asap!

  7. LisaMarie What a wonderfully put together resource. And you’ve already included the new HPE curriculum! Thank you!

  8. Thanks for this great resource. Do you know where I can find the curriculum check list format for secondary school, grades 9 to 12?
    Thank you

  9. This is fantastic!
I ma considering homeschooling my younger three (5, 2, 8 months). Is there any way you are planning to do one of these for kindergarten? Currently, my 5 year old is in the Catholic school system but I would like to research what I may be getting myself into with homeschooling. I ma downloading the others, though for future use even if it is just to help out with activities at home.
    Thanks you for this!

    1. I wish I had 4 sets of hands and more time to work on this to-do list! I have Kindergarten in the works and hopefully will get it done soon! ::fingers crossed::

  10. My child will be starting JK next year. Do you have a curriculum outline of what children should be learning in JK and SK in Ontario?

PS: Your work is very well put together.

      1. Just curious as to why the 2006 version of Kindergarten was done vs. the full day version which is now implemented in schools across Ontario? Do you have plans to update the full day Kindergarten version?

        1. Good Question. I didn’t do the full day one for a few reasons, the main being because it is marked on the site as “draft.” I wasn’t sure if it was completed or not. Plus, once you get past the first 50 pages of text or so, the full day program is actually laid out in a very easy chart design which I think is easy to read without my help. And, lastly, because it isn’t in every school, everywhere. I just had to pick something. If you think it is of vital importance, I will dd a note to the post with the link to the K-Full Day book from the gov-‘t. I hope that makes sense. 🙂

  11. Thank You SO SO SO very much! All the work you put into the website and the sharing of information sure does help those of us thinking about the Homeschool option and those of use who’ve made the jump and are just getting started!

    I applaud your dedication.

  12. Thank you so much for doing this! I am homeschooling my 6 children this fall and was feeling very overwhelmed trying to find the expectations/curriculum for 5 different grade levels. This is exactly what I needed. ♥

  13. Hi there! Thanks so much for all the work you’ve done for these checklists! I read you answer to the comment about French immersion, but I wondered if you would post or send your blank template, so I could create the French immersion checklists to match all your others. Thanks for considering the request…

    1. These checklists include Core French which is from Grade 4 on. Honestly, I had no plans on adding in the French Immersion information but if enought people want it, I suppose I can try to pop it together. Lack of time and hands makes these extra things a challenge. 😉

  14. Great job putting that together!! Your truly an angel!! Thank you very much for taking the time to make things easier for us parents! (and children!) I just have one question, do you know of a good website where I can find some workbooks for different subjects for Grade 3 that mesh with your checklist? My son loves filling out workbooks! Thanks again!!

  15. Thank you for creating these guides! I have my first classroom as a teacher this year and am finding them extremely helpful!!

  16. This is fabulous!!! I’ve been looking for something like this for ages! Tried making my own and gave up because it was so time consuming and tedious! Thanks so much!!!

Hello. This is an excellent resource! It must have taken you a while. Thank you very much for sharing it for free!

  19. LisaMarie, I echo all the comments here, also thanking you so much for all your hard work compiling all this curriculum information by grade. This is an invaluable resource for teachers 🙂

  20. I saw that you mentioned doing one for the updaed 2016 kindergarten curriculum. Did you end up doing this? I would be very interested in this if so!

    1. Sorry – I don’t think I finished it yet. The work is very time consuming for these, and I just haven’t had time! I’ll keep chipping away though 🙂

The actual layout of the new kindergarten curriculum in the government file is pretty good, though. So it’s not as complicated as the other grades!

  21. I just want to say – as an educator of 9 years I have been coming to your website as long as I can remember. I use a lot of stuff on here for my son as well, in order to supplement his learning at school. I want to thank you so much for the wonderful resources you offer – you have honestly made my career and life easier.

  22. Awesome site and resources! I signed up but cannot seem to access the curriculum checklists. I am redirected to the same page every time saying it looks like I don’t have access to the page. Did I miss a step?

  23. Thank you soooo much!! I can’t explain how helpful this site is! I was sooo overwhelmed with the concept of trying to teach the kids, and this site helped me more than I can even explain! Thank you for all your work, and your generosity in sharing with us!

  24. THANKYOU LisaMarie! Your site has been of so much help to me as a new homeschool mom! I so appreciate all the work you have put into making the Ontario curriculum available this way!!

  25. Hi There! I just came across your website and I am looking to start homeschooling my daughter officially who is 5 years old. I’m just wondering how I submit a letter of intent to the local school board here in Niagara Falls. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you so much!

  26. Building a Kinder/Grade 1 program in the outdoors. This is the brevity and clarity that is hard to find with Ministry Documents. Thanks for your hard work!

  27. Hi!

Just wondering if you will be updating the Ontario Science Curriculum checklists? This is a lot of work and it is really appreciated. Thank you!

      1. Hi Lisa! Thanks for making these. The Science curriculum was updated in March 2022. If you do update the document I would be so appreciative!

  28. I just stumbled across this during an Ontario curriculum search! Thank you for the awesome resource! The time it took for you to put this together is greatly appreciated!!!

  29. None of the checklists seem to be available today. Is that a system glitch? Absolutely love your resources and was hoping for the updated version.

  30. Hi there, I love your checklists. I have been using them for over 5+ years now. Will you have the language updated curriculum? Thanks so much for all the work you put in and share with us!

  31. Thank you so much for these curriculum checklists! They are immensely useful and save so much time. I’m just wondering if these Ontario Curriculum checklists include the updated 2023 Social Studies curriculum? I can see they’re updated with 2023 Language Arts and Science, but there’s no mention of Social Studies (Grades 1-3 and Grade 6). Thanks again!

  32. Hello,
Thank you so much for these checklists! Just noticed that the Grade 2 Visual Art page seems to be missing from the Grade 2 PDF.
