5 Ways Homeschoolers Can Enjoy Back to School

September is traditionally known as the season of “back to school.” As homeschoolers, some of us follow this school year pattern while some of us just school all year round – but no matter what approach we take, this time of year does have some perks that we can enjoy as homeschoolers.

homeschoolers can enjoy back to school

1. Back to School Sales.

Cheap supplies. Who could ask for a better day than that?! Please tell me that I’m not the only one who gets a bit giddy as I skip down the aisles stocking up on 10¢ packages of lined paper and 25¢ pencil bundles!

2. The Quiet Community.

Back to school season is the BEST time to hit up attractions or playgrounds or other activities in your community that normally are flooded with kids. Since schools aren’t starting their field trips yet – these places tend to be deadly quiet, meaning that you can enjoy them with your kids without the madness of the crowds. Or take your homeschool friends and have a {not} back-to-school get together. Enjoy these moments.

3. A Fresh Start.

Even if you school year-round, there’s just something invigorating about September and the sense of something new. It’s a great time of year to pull that momentum from our public school friends that are getting ready for a new adventure and apply it to our homeschool days. Make it new and fresh. Build some excitement.

4. Back to Routine.

After a summer break, September usually means a start of extra-curricular activities and clubs – so once you’re all signed up again, things go back into their daily routine. It can be nice to fall back into a schedule of activities (even if it’s just one or two), so everyone knows what to expect and when.

5. Your Community Returns.

Throughout the summer, people tend to spread out and vanish for a while. Vacations, family time, and other commitments mean that your homeschooling community tends to take a break. The fall usually brings everyone back together. It’s nice to have that network again.

So bring on the back-to-school season. It’s not just for school anymore.

  1. I may have been a little over zealous in the past while shopping the back to school sales! I think we have crayons, pencils, paper & books to last the next 5 years 🙂 I also know I’ll be happy to get my quiet grocery store & library back when all the kids go back to school 😉
