Tourism Materials: Travel Across Canada

One of the things I have always wanted to do with my children is learn all about Canada. I wanted to do it with more then just textbooks though and feel like we had a bit of a hands on feel with it.  My dream is to one day take the kids and rent a motorhome and travel across the country, taking our time and learning everything we can about the beautiful place we call home.

Map of Canada

On facebook I noticed some people on the Homeschool Swap Canada group have asked to have people send them post cards from different provinces. I have participated in this sending some BC post cards out to other provinces. Kids love to get mail so what better way to kill two birds with one stone, getting mail and learning about another province.  Another thing I have done is ordered from each province their free Travel package for those interested in visiting their province. It is a way to also be interactive and figure out if we went there what would interest the family. From there you can learn more about the attractions and any other interesting facts that you might come across.  I have gathered some links below of province information where you can fill it in and for free have it sent to your house or download it straight to your computer.

We are setting out on exactly that adventure in May! We are buying a travel trailer and will spend 12 months exploring your beautiful country :)

I have used all the links you mention already and have received literature from all the provinces except Saskatchewan – even though I’ve requested it twice!

It’s a scary, but very exciting adventure :)

Ooh – that IS a very exciting adventure! When I was a kid, my family had a trailer and every summer we went travelling. I’ve been blessed to go from Vancouver to Nova Scotia in my travels. I hope one day to make it to NFLD and the territories. What an amazing experience! All the best on your journey (And I hope you blog about it and share with us all!!)

    • Natalie says:

      Alex,
Us too! though we are starting out likely a little later than May. I can’t wait! I only have one daughter (5) to worry about homeschooling.

I am new to homeschooling. My first two boys went to school, now my daughter has asked to be home schooled. This is something very new to me. But what a good idea about the postcards and travel information on learning about this beautiful country we do live in.

We are from the U.S., but are currently studying Canada in our unit study, and I was searching for more information when I came across your site. Thank you for the information and ideas!

Hi, I just found you this morning.
How coincidental that your most recent blog post is about teaching your kids all about our awesome country, because I am trying to organize a Canadian kids book blog hop with matching activities. Would you consider joining us? I will announce a date when we have at least one blogger in place from each province.
